After Friday night's semifinal match where Lovejoy struggled with hitting and serving errors, the Leopards came out more focused and quickly set the tone for the Championship match against Monahans. Lovejoy jumped out to an 8-1 lead early in the first set and used this momentum to carry them to a 25-20 victory. A back and forth game ensued early on in the 2nd set with Lovejoy going on a 4-0 run to break it open with the score tied 19-19. The Leopards used this run to put away the Lobos in the 2nd set 25-21. Monahans fought back in the third set to take an early lead and extend it late into the set. With Monahans leading 18-22 the Leopards surged back to tie the game at 23-23. Tournament MVP Andie Malloy scored the next two points to seal the set and another Class AAA State Championship for the Leopards.

Lovejoy advanced to the State Championship Finals today by defeating Wimberley. The Leopards and Texans battled back and forth throughout the first set with Lovejoy holding a 23-18 lead late in the set. Wimberley called a timeout and recomposed themselves to come back to tie the score and take the first set 23-25. The Leopards again gained a lead in the second set only to see Wimberley pull back to within 1 point. Lovejoy would not let the same thing happen again, as they pulled away down the stretch to win 25-21. In the third set, it seemed as Lovejoy had regained all momentum as they won 25-16. The Lady Texans would not go down easy as they fought back with a 22-25 win in the fourth set. Lovejoy put a stop to any momentum that may have been gained by the Texans as they opened the tie breaker set with an 7-1 run. A quick exchange of points and Lovejoy again went on another run extending their lead and pulling away to win 15-5.

Lovejoy will play Monahans in the Championship Finals on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at 1:00pm. The game will be played at Strahan Coliseum located on the campus of Texas State University. Directions to the Coliseum can be found here.

Lovejoy will play Wimberley on Friday, November 20, 2009 at 3:00pm in the Texas State Championship Semifinals. The game will be played at Strahan Coliseum located on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos. Directions to the Coliseum can be found here.

There are some very specific policies for the tournament regarding photography and video. Specifically, there are no video or filming apparatus allowed in the gym. Information concerning the policies can be found on the UIL Athletics web site. Complete tournament details, including all conference schedules can be seen on the UIL Athletics web site.

The Lovejoy Leopards will return to San Marcos to defend their State Championship as a result of their win against Texarkana Pleasant Grove in the Class AAA Region II tournament finals today at Texas A&M Commerce. The Leopards demonstrated their workmanship attitude in each game keeping the scores in their advantage in each set and slowly stretching small leads into larger leads as they won in three straight set 25-19, 25-19, 25-14.

Lovejoy will play on Friday, November 20, 2009 at either 1:00pm or 3:00pm in the Texas State Championship Semifinals against an opponent that is yet to be determined. The game will be played at Strahan Coliseum located on the campus of Texas State University. Directions to the Coliseum can be found here.

Leopards move on to Regional Finals

Lovejoy started off slowly tonight falling behind early to Prosper in the first set. The Leopards kept scratching their way back. With Prosper leading the first set 17-21 and later 21-24, the Leopards dug deep to tie the game and take the lead 25-24 with serve in hand. An errant serve tied the game again at 25. Each team then traded points to even the score at 26-26. The Leopards would not be denied as they won the next two points to win the first set 28-26. The win propelled the Leopards as they dominated from that point forward winning the 2nd set 25-11, and the 3rd set 25-12. The win advances the Leopards to the Regional final match.

Lovejoy will play Texarkana Pleasant Grove in the 3A Region II Finals Saturday November 14th at 2:00pm. The Regional Tournament will be held at Texas A&M Commerce. For directions please click here.

Lovejoy advanced to the 3A Region II Tournament tonight with a victory over Emory Rains. The Leopards got off to a slow start falling behind 6-2 in the first set. Lovejoy fought back to even the score at 10 and pulled away from Emory to win the first set 25-14. Lovejoy continued the fast pace in the second and third sets winning with scores of 25-16, 25-12.

Lovejoy advanced to the Regional Quarterfinals with a three set victory over the Atlanta Lady Rabbits. The Leopards started off slowly but gained momentum in the first set winning 25-14. In the second set, Lovejoy built a large lead only to see Atlanta battle back after a number of substitutions were made late in the game by Lovejoy. The Leopards held on to win the set 25-22. In the third set, Lovejoy established a 7-1 lead to start enroute to a 25-12 win.

In a rematch of #1 teams from 4A and 3A, Richardson Pearce got the upper hand. Lovejoy started off quickly winning the first set 25-16. The second set went back and forth with Lovejoy holding a 24-21 lead late in the match, however Pearce stormed back to take the set 24-26. In the third set, the slight momentum edge that Pearce had gained continued as they won set 3 by a 25-20 score. Lovejoy was not going down easily though. In the fourth set, each team battled back and forth with Pearce gaining the edge down the stretch and winning the fourth set 25-23.

Lovejoy finshed the regular season tonight in front of a home crowd on hand to celebrate the 1st ever Senior Night for Leopard Volleyball. The Leopards came out strong and quickly put away the Lady Farmers from Farmersville in consecutive sets 25-8, 25-14, 25-20. With the sweep the Leopards finished the regular season undefeated in District 13-3A, in fact they didn't lose a single set.

Earlier in the night, the Leopard JV Red team completed their undefeated season in District 13-3A by downing the Lady Farmers 25-6, 25-18. The Freshman team did not have an opponent tonight as Farmersville was unable to field a team. However, they also won the District Championship going 9-1 in District 13-3A play. As noted in an earlier posting, the JV Black team won their district. tournament and season championship as well; making it a clean sweep for the Leopards

Congratulations to all of the Leopard High School teams for a successful regular season. The overall regular season record for all of the teams combined was 130-18-0......45-1-0 in District 13-3A.

The Leopard JV Black team finished their season in fine fashion as they went undefeated in District play and won the District Tournament as well. Lovejoy defeated Wylie East 25-7, 25-16 in the seminfinal match. In the finals, Lovejoy swept Shepton 25-19, 25-13. The team finished the season with a 29-2 overall record. Congratulations on a fine season!

Lovejoy moved to 9-0 in District play tonight as they went on the road to face Princeton. The Leopards won in three straight sets 25-10, 25-14, 25-10. Lovejoy will face Farmersville on Tuesday October 27th at LHS looking to complete the regular season undefeated in District 13-3A play. Play begins at 6:00pm. Tuesday night is also Senior Night. Come show your appreciation for the 1st ever graduating class of Lovejoy Leopards.

Because of their #1 seeding in the District Tournament, the JV Black team drew a Bye for the first round. Therefore, they will not play the District Tournament games originally scheduled for Thursday the 22nd. The first game of the tournament for JV Black will take place on Saturday October 24th at 10:00am. The Leopards will take on the winner of the Vines vs. Wylie East match. Lovejoy went on the road to Emory tonight to take on the Wildcats on their home turf. The Leopards set the pace from the beginning winning the first set 25-15. In the second set, Emory hung in early tying the score at 6-6. The Leopards went on a 11-0 run and move towards another win by a score of 25-14. The final set ended the same as the first with Lovejoy controlling the set from beginning to end eventually winning 25-14.

Lovejoy wasted no time tonight in defending their home court by dispersing of Quinlan in three straight sets. The Leopards won easily in set one with a 25-4 score. In the second set a few errors by Lovejoy made the score closer. Lovejoy won by a 25-12 margin. The third set was again dominated by the Leopards by a 25-9 score.

Lovejoy continued their dominance of District 13-3A tonight as they swept Princeton in straight sets. The Leopards won the first set by a 25-15 score. In the second set, Lovejoy jumped out to a quick lead of 10-2 and continued the dominating play to post a 25-7 victory. The third set was much as the other two with the Leopards winning 25-15.

The 7th grade Silver Squad took 2nd Place to bring home a trophy in the McMillan VB tournament on Saturday.

In the first match the Leopards defeated Wylie Cooper in two games: 25-13 and 25-9 to advance to the Championship Bracket where they met Curtis. Again the Leopards played well and won 25-22 and 25-17. In the Championship match, the Leopards took on Ereckson and were narrowly defeated 20-25 and 22-25 to take 2nd Place.

Lovejoy moved to 2-0 in district play tonight with a three game sweep over Quinlan. The Leopards won the first set 25-7. In the second set, a score of serving errors kept the score much closer but Lovejoy prevailed 25-13. In the third set, the serving errors were gone and Lovejoy dominated in a 25-4 win.

Lovejoy Varsity opened District play tonight travelling to Nevada to take on the Braves. Lovejoy wasted little time in winning in three straight sets. The Leopards put together 25-6, 25-10, 25-11 victories to finish off Nevada.

Lovejoy Varsity wasted little time tonight in defeating Lindale in three straight sets. The Leopards spotted the Eagles a 0-3 lead only to storm back in the first set and quickly take the lead in route to a 25-12 win. The second and third sets were all Leopards as Lovejoy won by 25-13 and 25-6 margins.

The Leopards begin District play this Friday when they travel to Nevada. Play begins at 5:00pm.

The JV Red and Black squads finished in 1st and 2nd place overall at the Denton Guyer tournament. The two teams had to face each other in the finals to determine the champion. In true Lovejoy fashion, they fought each other long and hard for the title. The JV Red team came out on top with a 21-25, 25-11, 20-25 score.

Meanwhile the Lovejoy Freshman team took home 2nd place overall at the Freshman Guyer tournament. The Leopards fell in the championship game to Richland by a score of 22-25, 25-5, 20-25.

Lovejoy took the short 4 mile trip to Allen to take on the Eagles tonight in what could turn into a cross town rivalry. Allen got the best of the Leopards in the end. The Eagles won a close first set by a score of 23-25. Lovejoy quickly grabbed any momentum away in the second set taking a 10-3 lead. A bit of divine intervention took away the momentum as the lights went out at AHS. After a thirty minute delay, Allen composed themselves and cut into the Leopard lead. The large lead proved too much however as the Leopards held on to take the 2nd set 25-21. Set 3 was a back and forth affair with Lovejoy seizing a 22-20 lead down the stretch. The Eagles went on a 5-0 run however to win the third set 22-25. In the fourth set, Allen jumped out to a large lead stretching it to as many as 9 points. The Leopards fought back but were unable to close the deficit in the end and fell 20-25.

Lovejoy travelled to Justin tonight for a dual match against Wichita Falls Ryder and Justin Northwest. The Leopards took four sets to dispense of Ryder 25-14, 25-22, 22-25, 25-18. Against the hometown Northwest squad, Lovejoy jumped out quickly to a two set lead winning both sets by a score of 25-15. Northwest began the third set with a 6-1 scoring run. Lovejoy battled back to tie the game at 23. Northwest won the next two points to win the set 23-25 and force another set. A back and fourth match ensued in the forth set with one team taking a small lead only to see the other come back and tie or take the lead. With the score tied at 18 apiece, Lovejoy went on a 5 point run to gain enough momentum to propel them to the win in the fourth set 25-22.

The JV Red squard finished in 1st place overall at the 2009 GISD JV Tournament at Garland High School. The Leopards defeated Garland 15-5, 15-8 as well as South Garland 15-5, 15-8 in Pool Play. In bracket play Lovejoy defeated Sachse (25-12, 25-7), Rowlett (25-14, 25-12), and Denton Ryan (25-12, 25-15).

The Freshman Leopard team won the Consolation Bracket at the Frisco Tournament. Lovejoy won their pool by besting Frisco Liberty B (25-20, 26-24) and Denison (25-19, 25-18). In Gold Bracket play, Lovejoy lost a tough match to Centennial 25-23, 23-25, 23-25. The loss put the Leopards in the Consolation Bracket where they defeated Frisco 25-23, 25-16 and Wakeland 25-23, 20-25, 21-25 to win the bracket.

The Sachse Mustangs visited LHS tonight to take on the Leopards. The Mustangs got off to a quick start beginning the first set with a 8-0 run and taking the first set 16-25. Lovejoy found their balance in the second set winning 25-17. From this point forward, it was all Lovejoy as they pulled away to win the next two sets 25-14, 25-17.

In a battle between the #1 team in 4A and the #1 team in 3A, it was the 3A team that came out on top. Lovejoy took on Pearce at home tonight in what turned into a classic battle between two solid volleyball programs. Pearce jumped out quickly to win the first two sets 17-25, 20-25. Lovejoy rallied back to win the third set 25-18. In the fourth set, the Leopards established a 10-1 lead only to have Pearce rebound and close within 1 point at 20-19. Lovejoy held on to take the fourth set 25-22. In the tie-breaking fifth set, Lovejoy again established an initial lead 5-1. The Mustangs again pulled close at 10-7. Lovejoy closed out the game with a 5-0 run to win the set 15-7.

The Leopard JV Black team finished in 2nd Place overall at the IAD Team Cup. Even though the Leopards beat Hebron 2 out of 3 sets, the winner of the tournament was decided by total number of points, and the team just missed first place by 1 point!

Lovejoy finished in 3rd place overall at the Coppell tournament. The Leopards began the day with a victory over Trinity Christian 25-13, 15-25, 25-18. In the semifinals match, Lovejoy fell to Red Oak in three sets 25-21, 26-28, 21-25. The Leopards went on to defeat Denton Guyer in three sets 24-26, 25-11, 25-20 to finish in third place overall.

The Leopards returned home tonight to host Rowlett at LHS. It was a clean sweep for the four Leopard teams that competed. The Freshman B team won a close match 27-25, 25-21. The Freshman A team needed an extra tie-breaking set to finish off Rowlett 19-25, 25-10, 20-19. The JV Red team posted a 25-10, 25-20 victory. Lovejoy's varsity team won consecutive sets 25-22, 25-16, 25-23 to complete the sweep.

Lovejoy finished in 3rd place overall at the Texas Open tournament in Allen. The Leopards began the day with a victory over Bishop Lynch 25-16, 25-15. A three set match win against Hebron (25-27, 25-16, 26-24) sent the Leopards to the semifinals. In the semifinals match, Lovejoy fell to Coppell in three sets 25-18, 22-25, 28-30. The Leopards did not let the loss deter them as they went on to defeat Plano West in two straight sets 25-22, 25-22.

Lovejoy advanced to the Championship Bracket of the Texas Open with a win in their crossover match against Carrollton Creekview 25-21, 25-17. Earlier in the day, the Leopards finished 2nd in pool play. Lovejoy started off with a win against McKinney North by a score of 25-14, 25-8. In the next match, Lovejoy bested Plano East 25-20, 25-20. The Leopards had a letdown against Coppell and fell 22-25, 14-25.

Lovejoy will take on Bishop Lynch Saturday, August 22nd at Ereckson Middle School beginning at 9:15am.

The Varsity Leopards lost a tough match tonight as they traveled to Frisco Liberty to take on the Redhawks. The scores of the 5 set match were 23-25, 25-21, 25-22, 22-25, 14-16.

Only hours after deboarding the plane from Kauai, the Lovejoy Leopards took the court against Wakeland in Frisco tonight. Lovejoy opened the match quickly winning the first and second set 25-17, 25-10. It looked like the Leopards were showing no sign of jet lag. Wakeland was not about to go away easily as they fought back to win set 3 by a 19-25 score. The loss of the set did not seem to phase the Lady Leopards, however, as they came back immediately to win the 4th set and match by a 25-14 score.

The Freshman and JV squads also played against Wakeland tonight. Each of the teams, won their respective matches.

Play completed today in Kauai with Lovejoy losing in the semifinals to eventual tourney champion Iolani. The Leopards began the day with a win over LaReina High 25-10, 25-22 to advance to the semifinals. In the semifinal match, Iolani topped the Leopards in the first set 23-25. Lovejoy fought back from a 6 point deficit to win the second set 25-22 and even the set. In the final tiebreaker set, Lovejoy fell behind early but continued to battle back to even the score each time Iolani gained an edge. Down the stretch Iolani gained a two point advantage that the Leopards could not come back from. Iolani won the final set 13-15. The Leopards could not let down following the loss, because they immediately had a match to play for 3rd place in the tournament. Lovejoy would be playing Waikea, whom they had defeated a day earlier in pool play. The Leopards jumped out to big leads in both sets and easily won the third place match 25-19, 25-14.

In Kauai today, the facilty cooled down a little but the Leopards heated up even more. Lovejoy started by dispensing of Waiakea 26-24, 25-19. The Leopards followed this up with a 25-14, 25-14 win over St. Andrews Priory. In the final match of the day, the Leopards completed the sweep with a win over Palos Verdes by a score of 25-15, 25-15. With the sweep, the Leopards advanced to the Championship bracket beginning 8:00am on Saturday.

In Kauai today, the Leopards swept in pool play winning three straight matches. In Match 1, the Leopards defeated Sage Hill 25-19, 25-19. In Match 2, Lovejoy defeated the host team from Kapaa High 25-19, 25-10. In the final match of pool play, Lovejoy bested Hawaii Baptist Academy 25-20, 25-20.

The Leopards opened their 2009-10 season tonight against the Wylie Pirates. JV Black and JV Red started the season with wins over the Pirates. JV Black posted a 25-13, 25-18 win, while JV Red bested the Pirates by a score of 25-12, 25-10. In the later games, the Freshman Leopards rolled to a 25-7, 25-10 win. The Varsity team pitched a shutout as well winning in straight sets 25-15, 25-12, 25-21.
