Leopards Make History
Friday, 19 November 2011
Lovejoy became the first team in 3A history and only the fourth team ever to win four straight State Championships as they defeated
Abilene Wylie in five sets.
It was a battle to the end as the Leopards struggled at times, and shined at others. Lovejoy won the first set
25-20 in rather workmanship fashion, after trailing early 15-17. The Leopards closed with a 10-3 run.
This is where it began to get interesting as the second set saw the
Leopards commit many mistakes as they dug a hole that they could not recover from. Wylie began to put the ball down from the outside and
before you knew it the Bulldogs had taken set two by a 18-25 margin.
Lovejoy immediately bounced back as if nothing had happened by opening the third set with a 14-9 lead which they stretched to 20-9 at one point.
Wylie put together a few points but it wasn't enough as the Leopards won 25-14.
With a bit of momentum on their side, Lovejoy opened the fourth set looking to close out Abilene Wylie. The Bulldogs wouldn't go away that easily
as they built a lead down the stretch and then held on to win the fourth set 23-25.
It was a this point in the match where the real Leopards stepped in and took control. Lovejoy opened the fifth set with an early 8-4 lead. Boosted
by several kills by Tournament MVP Andie Malloy, the Leopards closed with a 7-3 run to pull off the 15-8 victory.
Lovejoy advances to Championship
Friday, 18 November 2011
Lovejoy advanced to their fourth straight State Championship match today with a hard fought victory over Sinton. In the first set, the Leopards had
to rally from a 11-17 deficit down the stretch to win the set 25-23. The win seemed to take any momentum that Sinton had away from them as Lovejoy
won the second set easily 25-9. The Lady Pirates from Sinton put themselves in an early hole once again to start the third set. The deficit was too
much as they could never establish any momentum to cut into Lovejoy's lead. The Leopards closed out the match with a 25-15 win.
Lovejoy will face Abilene Wylie at 2:00pm.

the Leopards fourth consecutive trip to the Tournament. Lovejoy fought off a tough Prosper team who continued to put pressure on them throughout
the match. Each time Prosper would close the score, the Leopards would put together long runs, including a 12-1 run in set two, to pull away
from the Eagles. The runs helped propel the Leopards to the sweep as they won 25-17, 25-17, 25-19.

Leopards Advance To Regionals
Tuesday, 08 November 2011
The match pitting #1 Lovejoy against #2 Argyle started out like it would live up to the top billing it should have had. In set one, Lovejoy and
Argyle fought back and forth early on. With the score 14-10, Lovejoy extended their small lead and pulled away with an 11-5 run down the stretch
to put away the Eagles 25-15. The run continued in the second set as Lovejoy went up early on 13-3. They proceeded to stretch the lead to 24-7. The
Eagles put together a small run in the end to make the final score 25-10. The third set appeared closer when the final score was posted, but it
was all Leopards throughout as they built a 17-10 lead and finished with a final score of 25-17 to complete the sweep.
With the win, the Leopards advance to the Regional Tournament in Commerce on Friday, November 11th. Lovejoy will play Paris North Lamar beginning at
8:00pm. The game will be played at the Fieldhouse on the campus of Texas A&M - Commerce.
Lovejoy Sweeps Pilot Point
Thursday, 03 November 2011
Lovejoy started their run in the playoffs tonight with an Area Playoff match against Pilot Point. The Leopards established the tone early as they jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Blocking and hitting was spot on throughout the match at Lovejoy posted the 25-8 victory. Sets 3 and 4 were a little closer scorewise as Coach Mitchell liberally substituted players in and out of the lineup to give them all a taste of playoff volleyball. Lovejoy was clearly in control as the won 25-17, 25-16 respectively.

Friday, 07 October 2011
Lovejoy went on the road to Prosper to take on the #4 Eagles tonight. The Leopards escaped with a close 25-23 victory in the first set. In set 2, Lovejoy seemed to take over winning 25-18. Their momentum was short lived as another close game ensued in the third set. This time Prosper was able to take the two point win by a 24-26 margin. The loss did not distract Lovejoy as they bounced back to win the fourth set 25-16.
Lovejoy downs Lone Star
Tuesday, 04 October 2011
The Varsity Leopards proved too much for the visiting Rangers from Frisco Lone Star tonight. Lovejoy's potent offense overpowered Lone Star as they swept easily in three sets 25-10, 25-11, 25-11. Earlier in the night, the JV-Red team completed a sweep as well winning 25-11, 25-13. The Leopards return to action Friday night at they take on the #4 team in 3AAA, the Prosper Eagles.

JV-Red Finishes 3rd at Allen
Saturday, 24 September 2011
The JV Red Leopards opened up the Allen JV Jamboree determined to prove that they, too, could stack up with the best teams the Metroplex had to offer. They started off strong in pool play with 2 set wins over Plano Jasper, Lewisville, and Bishop Lynch to advance to the Championship bracket. They defeated Plano East 25-15 and 26-24 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. In the quarters, after dropping the first set to Flower Mound Marcus 23-25, they battled back to win the next two sets 25-21 25-17 to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, the Leopards started strong with a 25-17 victory against Coppell. After leading 19-11 in the 2nd set, the championship game seemed within reach. However, physical and mental exhaustion attacked the Red 9 (who were constantly up against 12 – 16 girl teams the 5A teams had to offer), and they let the 2nd set slip through their fingers 23-25. The exhaustion was evident in the 3rd set as the girls dropped it 15-25 to Coppell (who went on to defeat Plano in 2 sets for the championship). Unfortunately, the weary Leopards had one match left – for 3rd place – against host Allen. The Leopards gutted out a gritty win 29-27 and 28-26. When the last ball hit the floor, the 9 literally fell on the floor, third place trophy proudly in hand.

With the game tied at 23, Allen committed two costly hitting errors in a row to give Lovejoy the victory 25-23. The third set looked much like the other two. However, this time Allen was able to overcome a seven point deficit and win the set 20-25. In the fourth set, Lovejoy again established an early lead. Leopards Topple Pearce
Tuesday, 30 August 2011
Initially, it appeared as if the match against Pearce would be as years past with the match going five sets as Lovejoy won the first set 26-24 followed by a Pearce win in set two 18-25. However, the Leopards would not have any of it as they took control in set three winning 25-21 and then increased that margin with a 25-17 win in the forth set.
Leopards Finish 7th at Pearland
Saturday, 27 August 2011
Lovejoy headed into the Pearland Classic on a high after finishing second at the Allen tournament. The Leopards moved quickly through the field on day one placing first in their pool with wins over Travis, Brandeis, and Deer Park. On day 2, Lovejoy started out with a quick win over Georgetown. The Leopards then won an emotional match against Plano West. The win pushed them into a quarterfinal match against Lake Travis. Lovejoy took the court almost immediately after the Plano West match due to the other courts running early to face a team that had been sitting for almost an hour. It was apparent from the beginning that the Leopards were not themselves as Travis posted a 12-25, 13-25 win to knock Lovejoy out of the gold bracket. Next up was San Antonio Johnson. Johnson posted a win in the first set 20-25. Lovejoy battled back to take set two 25-20 and force a game three. Johnson did not let the loss deter them as they won set three by a 17-25 score. Lovejoy finished the day against Kingwood, who had defeated Coppell earlier in the day. The Leopards finished the tournament season strong with a 25-18, 25-13 win. The win placed Lovejoy 7th overall at the tournament.

With the loss, the Leopards finished in 2nd place overall.

Doubling Down at Liberty
Tuesday, 16 August 2011
Lovejoy played a double header tonight against Liberty and Flower Mound. The Leopards opened quickly with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-19 win against Frisco Liberty. Friday, 12 August 2011

25-15, 25-12. After a long delay due to waiting for a court, Lovejoy dropped two consecutive sets to Arlington 22-25, 22-25. The Leopards played
Georgetown following that and posted a 25-19, 25-23 score.
The final game on Friday night for the Leopards had them facing perennial powerhouse Amarillo. The Sandies took the first set 21-25. Lovejoy
fought back in the second set to post a 25-20 win. In the final set, the Leopards gained just enough of an edge to secure the 26-24 win.
On Saturday, Lovejoy continued to put aside the early loss at Duncanville as they put together consecutive matches to win the Consolation Bracket. The Leopards
downed Kingwood 25-10, 25-15, followed by a 25-17, 25-22 win against Colleyville Heritage. In the Consolation Championship, Lovejoy took on Plano. The Leopards
battled back in the first set erasing a Plano lead and taking the match down the stretch 25-22. Lovejoy built a large lead to open the second set only to see
Plano make a run to get within 13-12. Lovejoy re-established control and pushed the lead to 18-12 on consecutive points. The Leopards used this push to
propel them to a 25-20 win.

Lovejoy came out on fire in the Championship game opening up with a 5-0 lead. Lovejoy stretched that lead
to a 20-14 advantage. Wimberley was able to close the gap and take the lead 21-20. With the first set tied
at 23, Lovejoy Senior Natalie Puckett put down back-to-back kills to give the Leopards the 25-23 win in the set.
The second set initially looked as if the momentum would continue as Senior Addason Lamb lead off with
two aces. Wimberley was able to quickly respond and gain a lead that Lovejoy would never recover from. The Texans Laura
Blab continued to put balls through the Leopard defense. Wimberley closed out the set with a 25-21 victory to pull even
in the match.
The loss in the second set sparked an offensive onslaught by Lovejoy as they made some lineup changes and
showed how powerful they can be when challenged. The Leopards blocked everything Wimberley tried to hit and killed
every ball they hit; building a 14-2 lead. The Texans fought back but could not do anything with the sizeable
lead. Lovejoy won the third set 25-10.
The fourth set looked initially as if there might be chance for a fifth set as both teams fought back and forth.
With the score tied at 11, Lovejoy went on a 5-0 run to force a timeout from the Texans. The Texans fought back
again and pulled the score close at 18-16. A Wimberley setting error, and a kill by Lovejoy made the lead
20-16 in favor of the Leopards. The two teams traded points before Sophomore Ebony Nwanebu put down
consecutive kills for a 23-17 lead. A couple of points by each team and the game ending block and the
bench erupted onto the floor as Lovejoy won the game 25-18.
For the third straight year, a Lovejoy Sophomore player was named Tournament MVP with Ebony Nwanebu earning
the honors this year.
